The honest answer: as of we found no confirmed, operating public Bitcoin ATM in Indonesia. The biggest directory, Coin ATM Radar, lists (according to search-result snippets) one location for the whole country, and it is a staffed counter in Bandung rather than a machine. Its city pages for Jakarta and Bali show no installed machines. On the same day we came across one fresh claim: a July 2026 article says a single machine sits in Ratu Plaza, Jakarta. The evidence is thin and contradictory (details below), so we do not count it as confirmed. If you are typing "bitcoin atm near me" in Jakarta, Bali or anywhere else in Indonesia, you will most likely land on advertising pages rather than a machine. Below we lay out what we saw, why machines are scarce, how to test any claim, and how to turn cash into Bitcoin (or back) by routes that work. For the big picture of buying routes, start with how to buy crypto in Indonesia.
{{callout type="verify" title="Checked against sources"}} Coin ATM Radar blocked our automated access (a Cloudflare challenge), so every number from that directory comes from search-result snippets with an unknown capture date. We did not try to bypass the block. Open the Indonesia page on Coin ATM Radar yourself and note the location count and the last-updated date before you travel. {{/callout}}
What we found, one by one
We use "confirmed" strictly: an official source, or at least two independent and current sources. By that standard, no location in Indonesia qualifies as an operating Bitcoin ATM. What exists are six kinds of finding that are often mistaken for one.
The Coin ATM Radar directory
According to search snippets (a third-party aggregator, not operator confirmation), the Indonesia country page lists one location: a "Bitcoin Teller" at Gedung Graha Pos in Bandung. The city pages for Jakarta, Bali and Kuta say no installed crypto ATMs match the chosen filters. For Surabaya, Yogyakarta, Medan, Makassar, Batam and Tangerang, no directory page surfaced in our searches. That is not absolute proof that no machine exists, but it is a strong hint.
The Ratu Plaza claim in Jakarta (unproven)
This is the finding that deserves the most careful weighing. A Journalarta article dated 2 July 2026 says Indonesia has just one Bitcoin ATM "operating officially" since 2021: a General Bytes GB200 at Mall Ratu Plaza, Jakarta, buy-only, taking rupiah cash or a QRIS scan. The article names no operator, offers no independent proof that the machine is switched on today, and places it on the "ground floor, South Jakarta". Directory pages that surfaced in search give a different address: 3rd floor of Ratu Plaza, Gelora, Central Jakarta, open daily 10:30 to 22:00, with BTC, ETH, DOGE, LTC and TRX. The CoinUnit.io page carrying that entry is titled as if the machine were in Hong Kong and lists HKD 500 and 1,000 notes, a strong sign the data was copied or mixed in from another template. We could not open the machine's page on Coin ATM Radar (blocked), so we do not know whether it is flagged active or inactive, or when it was last verified. A Telkomsel lifestyle article from June 2026, meanwhile, says Bitcoin ATMs no longer operate publicly. Our conclusion: there is a directory entry and one article saying the machine is alive, but no operator confirmation, no dated photo and no official source. If you are in Jakarta, go and look only as a check, do not carry large amounts of cash, and read our guide to buying crypto in Jakarta first.
The "teller" in Bandung: a counter, not a machine
The Bandung entry is tied to a service called BeliBitcoin.cash, which according to search snippets sits on the 6th floor of Gedung Graha Pos, keeps limited weekday hours, buys and sells several coins against rupiah and quotes limits from Rp500,000 up to Rp5 billion. The site brands itself as a "no KYC" service with cash payment. We could not open the site (DNS failed from our research environment) and could not reach the operator, so all of this is an unverified claim from a directory and from the operator itself. Two points matter. First, this is a counter staffed by people, not an ATM. Second, a cash service with "no KYC" does not appear on the OJK list of licensed traders that we read, and we do not recommend it. Our guide to buying crypto in Bandung covers the local context and how to check claims like this.
Old machines in Bali and Jakarta
On 4 September 2014, detikInet reported plans for Indonesia's first Bitcoin ATM at the Bitcoin Indonesia office in Legian, Kuta, Bali; CEO Oscar Darmawan said it would arrive within two to three weeks. At that time neither Bank Indonesia nor OJK recognised Bitcoin. The Finansialku blog, first published in 2018 and updated in June 2024, lists three "operating" sites: Glodok in Jakarta, Ubud and Kuta. The list looks carried over from 2018, so it is not proof of operation in 2024. One directory marks the Seminyak machine on Jalan Nakula as deactivated, but no source we read supports a reason. The current status of these old machines, for us: unknown, and probably dead.
The Lightning "ATM" in Canggu
Bitcoin House Bali opened on 31 May 2024 in Canggu, in a converted shipping container that works as a community hub, workshop space and coworking spot. Coinfinity reports that it displays merchandise and a "Lightning ATM", and says members can spend their sats on goods and services "within local legal constraints". Separately, Indonesian media around February 2022 reported a first "Lightning ATM" converting rupiah to satoshis via LNURL (we only saw snippets because the source pages refused access). We found no evidence that the Canggu machine pays out rupiah cash. Our guide to buying crypto in Canggu covers the community in more depth.
Uniform city pages
Beware of sites such as atm.bitcoin.com with pages titled "Bitcoin ATM Denpasar Indonesia" or "Bitcoin ATM Surabaya Indonesia". The text is a template advertising Coinhub machines, and we found no evidence of a physical Coinhub machine anywhere in Indonesia. These pages exist to rank for "bitcoin atm + city name". Treat them as ads, not maps.

Why Bitcoin ATMs are scarce in Indonesia
No single rule says "crypto ATMs are banned". We found no law, OJK regulation or Bank Indonesia statement that expressly prohibits or permits them. What exists is a combination of rules that makes a cash-machine business hard to run.
Crypto is not a payment instrument. Bank Indonesia press release 20/4/DKom of 13 January 2018 cites Law 7/2011 on Currency (the rupiah is mandatory for transactions in Indonesia) and warns financial-service providers not to use virtual currency as a means of payment or to process payment transactions involving it. On 25 February 2021 BI Governor Perry Warjiyo repeated that Bitcoin may not be used as a payment instrument (as quoted by Antara). Note that the 2018 release is addressed to financial and payment institutions; it is not a ban on individuals owning crypto. The full picture is in our guide to whether crypto is legal.
Trading runs only through licensed traders. Since 10 January 2025 OJK has supervised crypto (POJK 27/2024). OJK tells consumers to transact through digital financial asset traders (PAKD) on its whitelist, and as of 23 September 2026 it recorded 34 licensed entities: 2 exchanges, 2 clearing institutions, 2 depositories and 28 traders. Media report that Article 304 of the P2SK Law threatens unlicensed operation with 5 to 10 years in prison and fines of Rp1 billion to Rp1 trillion. Our reading (not an official statement): a cash kiosk run by an entity outside that list has no clear legal basis. A licensed trader could in theory install a machine, but we found none that has.
Licensed apps refuse cash deposits. Pintu's official FAQ says cash deposits through a bank teller are not available, citing POJK 27/2024 as amended by POJK 23/2025, and requires that funds come from an account in your own name. The deposit pages of Indodax, Tokocrypto, Reku and Pluang that we read likewise list only bank transfer, virtual account, QRIS and e-wallets, with no cash route. If the cash door is shut on the exchange side, a kiosk loses its lawful way to connect paper money to a licensed platform.
Money-laundering risk. Cash plus crypto without identity is the combination PPATK, the financial intelligence unit, watches most closely. A kiosk that takes cash without verification faces anti-money-laundering duties. That is why a "no KYC" claim should raise suspicion, not excitement.
A proposal to amend the P2SK Law so crypto and stablecoins could play a payment role was presented on 24 September 2025 and was still under discussion in early October 2025. It is not law. If that changes, we will update this page.
How to check a "there is a Bitcoin ATM here" claim
You may see a social-media post, a map review or a blog saying there is a machine near you. Before you bring cash, run through this.
- Find the operator's name, then match the exact company name and website against the OJK whitelist. Not on the list means not supervised by OJK.
- Look at the date of the evidence. A map review or article from years ago does not prove the machine is on today. Ask for a recent, dated photo or video.
- Contact the operator through an official number and ask about opening hours, limits and identity checks. An answer of "no KYC" or "no limits" is a red flag.
- Compare the rate on offer with the price in a licensed app at the same minute. A big gap is a hidden fee. Bitcoin ATMs elsewhere are known for charging well above exchange apps; Coin ATM Radar's fee analytics page, seen via snippet, puts typical markups at 5 to 20 percent.
- Never pay first, and never hand cash to someone who comes to your home or villa without checking who they are.
- If in doubt, call OJK on 157 before you transact. {{/steps}}

Bitcoin ATM near me: city by city
If "bitcoin atm near me" is what you typed, here is the status for each city on this site, using the same strict standard.
| City | Status | Guide |
|---|---|---|
| Jakarta | No confirmed ATM. One unverified claim (Ratu Plaza); the old Glodok machine has unknown status. | Jakarta |
| Bandung | One staffed counter per a directory, unverified. | Bandung |
| Surabaya | Nothing found. Coinhub template pages are not evidence. | Surabaya |
| Bali (Denpasar, Kuta, Seminyak, Ubud) | No confirmed machine. The 2014 and 2018 machines have unknown status. | Bali |
| Canggu | Only a demo Lightning ATM at Bitcoin House Bali. | Canggu |
| Yogyakarta, Medan, Makassar, Batam | Nothing found. | Yogyakarta, Medan, Makassar, Batam |
Jakarta's commuter belt is covered in Tangerang, Bekasi and Depok, and everywhere outside Java and Bali in crypto across the Indonesian islands. Looking wider, we found no cash-crypto infrastructure in Sumatra, Kalimantan, Sulawesi, Nusa Tenggara, Maluku or Papua. "Not found" is not absolute proof of absence, but it is what we can stand behind.
What to do instead
People search for a Bitcoin ATM for a simple reason: they hold banknotes and want Bitcoin, or hold Bitcoin and want banknotes. Both can be done without a machine, through your own bank account.
From cash to Bitcoin. Deposit the cash into a bank account in your own name at a cash-deposit machine or teller. Then top up rupiah in an OJK-licensed app by virtual account, which is listed as free at Pintu and Reku on their official pages, or by QRIS or e-wallet, which costs roughly 0.7 to 2 percent depending on the platform. Then buy Bitcoin in the instant-buy mode. For example: Rp2,000,000 in cash, deposit, top up by virtual account, buy. A newcomer usually needs 20 to 45 minutes, with the main hurdle being e-KTP verification (Pintu quotes 10 minutes to 24 hours). For an already verified user it is about 5 minutes. Those are our estimates built from the platforms' official ranges, not guarantees. The full steps are in how to buy crypto in Indonesia, top-up method comparisons in the GoPay, OVO, DANA and QRIS guide, and the cash question in particular in our guide to buying crypto with cash.
From Bitcoin to cash. Sell in a licensed app, withdraw rupiah to your own bank account, then take cash from a bank ATM. From Pintu's FAQ: a flat Rp4,500 withdrawal fee, usually about 15 minutes outside bank downtime, up to Rp500 million per transaction. Indodax charges Rp10,000 (plus Rp1,000 when SMS OTP verification is used). Sales through a domestic platform bear final PPh 22 of 0.21 percent, withheld by the platform under PMK 50/2025; the details are in the crypto tax guide and the withdrawal steps in the guide to selling crypto for rupiah.
Large amounts. Above several tens of millions of rupiah, an OTC desk makes sense. See crypto OTC in Indonesia for each desk's minimum ticket.
Peer to peer. P2P markets on foreign platforms are busy, but those platforms are not OJK-licensed and account-freeze risk is real. Read P2P crypto in Indonesia before trying.
{{cta label="Open a crypto account" title="Holding a foreign card and in a hurry?" text="Some people choose an overseas service that accepts cards. CEX.IO is registered with the UK FCA and holds a US NMLS number, but it has no OJK licence and does not support rupiah (USD, EUR and GBP only). Weigh the risks, and remember the 1 percent tax if you sell through a foreign platform." }
That last option is not a replacement for a licensed platform. It is a choice for readers who understand the consequences; the full discussion is in our credit card and PayPal guide and the CEX.IO review.
And what about licensed traders and how they compare?
If you need a lawful starting point, compare fees and features in the best crypto exchanges in Indonesia, then read single reviews such as Indodax or Pintu. Fees move: the CFX exchange cuts its fee on 1 October 2026, so check each platform's official fee page before buying. If you plan to hold Bitcoin yourself, read the best crypto wallets in Indonesia.
{{callout type="warn" title="If someone offers you a machine or a cash counter"}} We document violence aimed at crypto holders and cash couriers in Bali, including an attempted robbery of a courier delivering rupiah for a USDT exchange in Kuta on 27 July 2025 (reported by Antara). Take cash and transact in a busy public place, not in a villa or a home. More in the Bali guide and the Kuta guide. {{/callout}}
Will this change?
Maybe, but not soon. Regulation is still moving: OJK unveiled a 2026 to 2031 roadmap on 2 July 2026 that, according to press reports, touches stablecoins, tokenisation and OTC. The P2SK Law has been amended (one law firm says effective 17 June 2026; we have not checked the number and date against the law text). None of that, as far as we read, opens an explicit path for cash machines. So the working rule is: assume there is no Bitcoin ATM until you have recent, independent evidence saying otherwise. If you find a machine that really operates and can prove it, send the details to contact@crypto-indonesia.com and we will check it.

Frequently asked questions
Is there a Bitcoin ATM in Indonesia?
We found no confirmed, operating public Bitcoin ATM in Indonesia. Coin ATM Radar snippets show one staffed counter in Bandung, and a July 2026 article claims one machine at Ratu Plaza, Jakarta, which we could not verify. Older machines in Bali and Jakarta are not proven active.
Are Bitcoin ATMs banned in Indonesia?
We found no rule that expressly bans or permits crypto ATMs. What is clear: crypto cannot be used as a payment instrument and trading must go through OJK-licensed traders. An unlicensed operator has no clear legal basis. That is our reading of the rules, not an official statement.
How do I buy Bitcoin with cash in Indonesia?
The practical route is to deposit cash into your own bank account at a bank ATM or teller, top up rupiah in an OJK-licensed crypto app by virtual account, then buy Bitcoin. Licensed apps refuse direct cash deposits. A first-timer needs roughly 20 to 45 minutes including e-KTP verification.
What is the Lightning ATM in Canggu?
Bitcoin House Bali in Canggu, opened on 31 May 2024, displays a Lightning ATM as a community and education piece. We found no evidence that it dispenses rupiah cash. Treat it as a demo of the Lightning Network, not as a place to exchange money.
How can I cash out Bitcoin without an ATM?
Sell on an OJK-licensed app, withdraw rupiah to your own bank account, then take cash from a bank ATM. Pintu's FAQ, for example, lists a Rp4,500 withdrawal fee and about 15 minutes outside bank downtime. The 0.21 percent final PPh 22 on sales is withheld by the platform.
Can I trust pages like 'Bitcoin ATM Surabaya' or 'Bitcoin ATM Denpasar'?
Uniform city pages on directory sites are often advertising templates. We found no evidence of physical machines in those cities. Before carrying cash anywhere, look for recent independent proof, and never hand over money before the machine and its operator are verified.
