Which crypto wallet suits you in Indonesia?

The best wallet depends on how much you hold and why. For small amounts, a balance on an OJK-licensed app is fine. For long-term savings, your own wallet is safer, if you protect the seed phrase.

The best crypto wallet isn't one product, it's one decision: who holds the keys to your coins. If the amount is small and you trade often, a balance on an OJK-licensed app such as Pintu, Indodax or Reku is enough and by far the most practical. If you are saving for the long term or the amount is significant, your own (non-custodial) wallet, especially a hardware wallet, gives you more control and better security, provided you handle the seed phrase with discipline. This page explains the difference, how to move coins from a local app into your own wallet, and what we cannot confirm about specific brands.

Frequently asked questions

What is the best crypto wallet for a beginner in Indonesia?

For a beginner with small amounts, the balance on an OJK-licensed app such as Pintu, Indodax or Reku is enough, because there is no seed phrase to manage. Once the coins feel valuable to you, consider your own wallet, ideally a hardware one, after practising with small amounts.

What is the difference between custodial and non-custodial wallets?

In a custodial wallet, such as an exchange account, the provider holds the keys and you log in with a password. In a non-custodial wallet you hold the keys yourself through a seed phrase. You get full control, but nobody can restore access if the seed phrase is lost or stolen.

Can I withdraw crypto from Pintu, Indodax or Reku to my own wallet?

Yes. Pintu, Reku, Indodax and Pluang support sending to external blockchain addresses for a network fee, according to their official pages. Make sure the network and address are right, and send a small test amount first.

Are Ledger, MetaMask and Trust Wallet available in Indonesia?

We could not confirm it. We did not verify Ledger shipping to Indonesia or MetaMask and Trust Wallet availability in Indonesian app stores. Check the makers' official sites, and buy hardware only from the official store or a reseller the maker itself lists.

What should I do if I lose my seed phrase?

If the wallet still opens, create a new wallet with a new seed phrase immediately and move everything over. If you can no longer open it and have no copy of the phrase, the assets are almost certainly unrecoverable. That is why a physical backup, not a screenshot, matters.

Is keeping crypto in a self-custody wallet legal in Indonesia?

We found no rule that bans individuals from keeping crypto in a personal wallet, but we also found no OJK statement explicitly approving it. What is clear: crypto is legal as an investment asset, not as a payment instrument. You still use a licensed app to buy and sell for rupiah.
