Can you buy crypto with a credit card or PayPal in Indonesia?
On OJK-licensed apps the answer is no: credit cards and PayPal are not offered. Cards only work on offshore platforms that hold no Indonesian licence, with their own costs and risks.
If you only need the answer: no, you cannot buy crypto with a credit card or PayPal on an OJK-licensed app such as Pintu, Indodax, Tokocrypto, Reku or Pluang. Pintu says plainly in its rupiah deposit FAQ that credit cards are "not yet available" as a deposit method, and none of the other local deposit pages we read lists a card or PayPal. What you get is bank transfer, virtual account, QRIS and e-wallets. Cards only work on offshore platforms that hold no licence here, at a higher cost and with risks you should understand first.
Fees, limits and licence status change; always confirm on the official site and the OJK licence list before you transact.
Frequently asked questions
Can I buy crypto with a credit card in Indonesia?
Not on OJK-licensed apps. Pintu states that credit cards are not yet available as a deposit method, and the deposit pages we read at Indodax, Tokocrypto, Reku and Pluang do not list cards either. Cards only work on offshore platforms that are not licensed in Indonesia.
Can I buy crypto with PayPal in Indonesia?
We found no OJK-licensed app that accepts PayPal. PayPal's own crypto feature is described on its help page for US customers. Some offshore P2P sellers take PayPal, but we advise against it: there is no OJK protection and buyers can reverse payments after the coins are released.
Why do local crypto exchanges not accept credit cards?
Pintu does not explain the reason for cards. Our reading: Bank Indonesia and OJK bar payment providers and financial institutions from processing or facilitating crypto, and card payments run through exactly those players. That is our inference, not an official statement.
Are crypto debit cards available in Indonesia?
We found no OJK-licensed platform offering one. Offshore exchanges market cards to the region, but availability per country is unconfirmed and crypto is not legal tender in Indonesia. Check the issuer's own page before you sign up for anything.
Is CEX.IO legal or licensed in Indonesia?
CEX.IO holds no OJK licence and does not appear on the OJK whitelist versions we reviewed. Its legal page lists an FCA registration (UK), NMLS (US) and a pending MiCA application in Spain, none of which is an Indonesian licence. It does not support rupiah.
How much does buying crypto by card at CEX.IO cost?
CEX.IO states a 0.49% to 4.99% fee on card, Apple Pay and Google Pay deposits plus a service charge, depending on provider and country. New customers are limited to USD 1,000 per day and USD 3,000 per month. Your bank may add a currency spread from rupiah.
