Luno Indonesia is a crypto app with a full OJK licence since 25 May 2026, taking rupiah deposits by instant bank transfer from Rp10,000. What makes people hesitate is news that Luno is closing customer accounts: that news concerns Europe, not Indonesia. What we could not pin down are trading and withdrawal fees, because Luno's official fee page for Indonesia was not readable to us and third-party figures contradict each other. So this review explains the licence status plainly, works out fee sensitivity with illustrative numbers and tells you how to check for yourself. If you are comparing, see also Pluang, Reku and Pintu, or start from how to buy crypto in Indonesia.
{{callout type="verify" title="Checked against sources"}} Licence status comes from press reports quoting OJK's announcement (we could not open the OJK page from our research environment). Deposit details come from Luno's help centre as shown in snippets. Trading fees, withdrawal fees, the coin list, KYC limits, user numbers and app ratings were not confirmed from official sources, so we do not state them as fact. {{/callout}}
Is Luno closing? Separate the EU news from Indonesia's status
In mid-2026 Luno announced it was ending service for customers in Europe. According to CryptoTicker, crypto transfers to external wallets were disabled on 29 June 2026, the last day to sell and withdraw funds to a bank was 31 August 2026, and accounts closed permanently from 1 September 2026. The same outlet notes that Luno does not appear in ESMA's register of authorised crypto-asset service providers, while the EU's MiCA transition period ended on 1 July 2026. Luno itself did not cite regulation; it said it is concentrating on core markets in Africa and South East Asia, naming Kenya, Nigeria, South Africa, Indonesia and Malaysia.
Three things must not be mixed up. One, the closure applies only to customers in regions served by the European entity. Two, the OJK licence belongs to a separate local entity, PT Luno Indonesia Ltd, under its own decree; it does not depend on any European register. Three, do not draw conclusions about the safety of funds in Indonesia from European news, or the reverse. All you can conclude is that Indonesia is named as a market to keep, which is a company statement and not a guarantee.
From Bappebti to a full licence: the timeline
Luno Indonesia was previously registered with Bappebti, then appeared on OJK's list of 19 December 2025 as a candidate trader (CPAKD) alongside three other names, and became a fully licensed digital financial asset trader (PAKD) under decree KEP-17/D.07/2026 effective 25 May 2026, according to Investortrust, which quoted OJK on 5 June 2026. The number of PAKD then stood at 26. The CPAKD versus PAKD distinction matters: a candidate is registered but not yet fully licensed.
Since we could not open OJK's page directly, match Luno's name and official domain against the OJK list using the steps in our crypto scams guide. The legal framework is explained in is crypto legal in Indonesia. Do not use lookalike domains: an app that only resembles the name is not licensed.
Rupiah deposits: instant bank transfer, not cards
According to Luno's help centre, the main route is instant bank transfer by ATM, internet banking or mobile banking, with no deposit fee from Luno, a minimum of Rp10,000 and a maximum of Rp999,995,599 per deposit. Your sending bank may charge its own interbank fee, so check your bank's tariff. One third-party source says GoPay deposits cost 2%; we did not confirm it. If it is right, Rp1,000,000 by GoPay costs Rp20,000 against nothing by bank transfer, so choose bank transfer. Comparisons across apps are in our GoPay, OVO, DANA guide.
Credit cards are not among the methods we saw, and funds must come from an account in your own name; the reasons are in the credit card and PayPal guide. For cash deposits, see buy crypto with cash.
Fees: why there is no rate table here
We tried to read Luno's "Fees and limits in Indonesia" page and got a block or an empty page. What remains are third-party figures that contradict each other. One review gives 0.17% maker and 0.27% taker plus a hidden spread on instant buys; another search summary gives 0% maker and 0.03% to 0.1% taker by volume, a spread of 0.15% to 0.45%, and a Rp15,000 withdrawal fee. Two versions that do not match mean we must not pick one. The certain part is the tax rule: 0.21% income tax on sales and no VAT on the asset, under PMK 50/2025 and our crypto tax guide.
What we can do is show how much the difference matters. The table below is an illustration: the cost per side (trading fee plus spread) is entirely our assumption, not Luno's rate, for a Rp1,000,000 cycle of buy then sell, plus 0.21% tax (Rp2,100), before any withdrawal fee.
| Assumed cost per side | Buy + sell | Plus sales tax | Approx. total |
|---|---|---|---|
| 0.3% | Rp6,000 | Rp2,100 | Rp8,100 (0.81%) |
| 0.6% | Rp12,000 | Rp2,100 | Rp14,100 (1.41%) |
| 1.0% | Rp20,000 | Rp2,100 | Rp22,100 (2.21%) |
The range is almost threefold, and that is where the danger lies. To check: before buying, note Bitcoin's buy and sell price on Luno at the same minute and compare them with the market price on Indodax; the percentage gap plus the trading fee shown on the confirmation screen is your cost per side. Do it with a small amount, say Rp50,000, before committing a larger sum.
Withdrawals: the number you must read on screen
The withdrawal fee is the one number small enough to decide everything, and we cannot confirm it. If the Rp15,000 from the search summary is right, withdrawing Rp500,000 costs 3% and withdrawing Rp5,000,000 only 0.3%; compare Rp4,500 at Pintu and a flat Rp6,500 at Reku. We do not know the minimum, maximum or processing time either. Before you keep money at Luno, open the withdrawal menu and read the details; if the fee is flat, plan infrequent but larger withdrawals. The general cash-out routine is in our guide to selling crypto for rupiah. Fees for sending coins to an outside wallet are reported as dynamic and carrying 11% VAT by one third-party source, with no official confirmation; for wallets, read the best crypto wallets in Indonesia.
Coins, verification and other things we have not read
The coin list is described as limited to majors, 15+ coins according to a third party; we have no official list. On verification, we did not read Luno's KYC page. Licensed platforms in Indonesia generally ask for an e-KTP and a selfie, but Luno's exact steps, daily limits and review times are unknown to us. We also publish no user count or app rating because no official source was readable. If these matter to you, the easiest route is to try registering before depositing.
A Rp50,000 trial: how to test Luno before putting in real money
Because the fees are unconfirmed, we suggest a small trial that answers every open question above in one afternoon. The result is more reliable than any figure in a review, this one included.
- Match the name PT Luno Indonesia Ltd and its official domain against the OJK list, then install the app from the official stores only.
- Complete verification and note how long it takes and which documents the screens ask for.
- Deposit Rp50,000 by instant bank transfer. Note whether the balance arrives within minutes and whether your bank deducts an interbank fee.
- Buy Rp50,000 of Bitcoin, then look straight away at the sell price. The percentage gap between the two prices plus the fee shown is your cost per side.
- Open the withdrawal screen and read the fee and minimum without confirming. If they look reasonable, withdraw a small part to see the payout time. {{/steps}}
With Rp50,000 the worst-case cost of the trial is a few thousand rupiah, yet you learn every number we could not. If your results differ from the illustration above, trust your own and tell us through the contact page so we can update this review.
Who Luno makes sense for
Picture Maya, who wants to buy Rp500,000 of Bitcoin once a month, likes a simple interface and sees a Rp10,000 deposit with no Luno fee as a plus. If the trading fee on the screen looks fair and she withdraws rarely, Luno is worth trying. Hendra is different: he wants coins beyond the majors, cashes out often or compares costs to the last decimal; since the coin list and withdrawal fee are unclear, he should start at Reku, which publishes its fees, or at Pluang if he already uses it for other assets. For large sums, look at OTC desks first, and do not treat a fresh licence as proof of service quality.
Risks worth noting
An OJK licence from May 2026 means Luno Indonesia has been a full PAKD for only four months, so its record as a licensee is short even though the global brand is older. The European news does not change Indonesia's status, but a change of strategy at the group could affect features or support; that is speculation, not information. Cost risk: two fee figures that do not match and an official page we could not read mean you have to check for yourself. A less-discussed risk: instant deposits are fast, but the speed also applies to mistakes, so check the account number and amount before sending, because a deposit to the wrong destination is hard to recover. The general risks remain: crypto prices swing, never share an OTP, beware fake accounts claiming to be Luno, and keep larger sums in a personal wallet if you can.
Luno compared with Pluang, Reku and Pintu
Pluang combines crypto with stocks and gold and has Instant Order with no Pluang fee; Reku publishes its fees and offers 350+ coins; Pintu offers a final price and a Rp4,500 withdrawal. Luno's strengths are instant bank deposits with a small minimum and a simple interface, but it is the one with the least data we could confirm. The table is brief; a wider list is in the best crypto exchanges.
| Platform | Status in Indonesia | Main fees | Rupiah top-up | Best for |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| 1Luno IndonesiaVisit site Read review | Local OJK-licensed since 25 May 2026 | Free deposits; trading fees not verified | Instant bank transfer, min. Rp10,000 | Beginners who like a clean interface |
| 2PluangVisit site Read review | Local OJK-licensed (PAKD), local | Instant Order 0% (CFX only); limit 0.10%/0.15% | Bank VA, QRIS 0.7%, GoPay 1.5% | Crypto, gold and stocks in one app |
| 3RekuVisit site Read review | Local OJK-licensed (PAKD), local | Lightning 0% + CFX; Pro 0.1% | VA free, QRIS 0.7% | Low fees, 350+ coins |
Our score: 3.6 out of 5
The 3.6 is an editorial judgement, deliberately lower because most of the data could not be verified. In its favour: a full PAKD licence since 25 May 2026, instant bank deposits with no Luno fee and a Rp10,000 minimum, and a company statement that keeps Indonesia as a core market. Against: unconfirmed trading and withdrawal fees, a limited coin list, no KYC data and a still-short record as a PAKD. The score can rise if the official fee page becomes readable and the numbers prove competitive. How we score is on our methodology page and other write-ups are in the reviews index. All information is; open the official Luno site for today's rates.

Frequently asked questions
Is Luno legal and licensed by OJK in Indonesia?
Yes. PT Luno Indonesia Ltd became a fully licensed digital financial asset trader under decree KEP-17/D.07/2026, effective 25 May 2026, according to press reports quoting OJK. Before that Luno was a candidate trader and had been registered with Bappebti. Check the name and domain on OJK's latest list.
Is Luno shutting down in Indonesia?
There is no sign of that. Luno's account-closure notice in August and September 2026 concerns customers in Europe. Luno says it is concentrating on Kenya, Nigeria, South Africa, Indonesia and Malaysia. Do not read European news as Indonesian news.
What are Luno's minimum deposit and deposit fee?
Per Luno's help centre, instant bank transfer from an ATM, internet banking or mobile banking carries no Luno fee, with a Rp10,000 minimum and a Rp999,995,599 maximum per deposit. Your sending bank may charge an interbank fee. One third-party source says GoPay costs 2%; we have not confirmed it.
What are Luno's trading fees?
We could not confirm them. Luno's official Indonesia fee page was unreadable to us and third-party figures disagree, for example 0.17% maker and 0.27% taker in one source versus 0% maker and 0.03% to 0.1% taker in another. Check the fee screen in the app before you buy.
How much does it cost to withdraw rupiah from Luno?
Unconfirmed. One search summary says Rp15,000 per withdrawal, but we could not open the official page. If that is right, withdrawing Rp500,000 costs 3%. Read the fee on the withdrawal screen before you confirm, especially for small amounts.
Is Luno good for beginners?
The interface is known to be clean and instant deposits with a small minimum help. But trading and withdrawal fees are unverified and the coin list is described as limited to majors (15+ coins per a third party). It suits you if you only want Bitcoin or Ethereum and have checked the fees.
How does the EU notice differ from the Indonesian service?
The EU notice shuts accounts of customers there: crypto transfers out were disabled on 29 June 2026 and funds had to be withdrawn by 31 August 2026, per CryptoTicker. It does not change the OJK licence of Luno Indonesia, which has been valid since 25 May 2026 and belongs to the local entity.
