Binance in Indonesia: status, the P2P route and the risks you should know
Binance has no OJK licence and OJK named it in 2026 enforcement against unlicensed platforms. Indonesians reach it through P2P rupiah ads, with 1% tax on sales and no OJK consumer protection.
Binance is not licensed in Indonesia, and OJK named it among the foreign platforms it acted against between January and May 2026. That has not stopped many Indonesians from using it through the P2P rupiah market, which was still full of ads. This page is not promotion and not a sign-up guide. It answers the three questions we get most: what Binance's status really is, how it differs from the licensed Tokocrypto, and what you put at stake if you use it anyway. We write carefully: OJK and Bank Indonesia are not our only evidence, some of it comes from press reports, and we flag what we could not confirm. If you just want to buy crypto with rupiah somewhere supervised, go straight to how to buy crypto in Indonesia or the best exchanges ranking.
Fees, limits and licence status change; always confirm on the official site and the OJK licence list before you transact.
Frequently asked questions
Is Binance legal in Indonesia?
Binance holds no OJK licence. OJK named it, with KuCoin, OKX, MEXC and Coinbase, in its January to May 2026 action against unlicensed platforms, according to Investortrust on 5 August 2026. Criminal provisions target operators. We found no official statement on individual users, either forbidding or permitting.
Is Binance blocked in Indonesia?
Kominfo blocked Binance's Instagram account in July 2024. The site and app, by our checks and press reports, can still be reached, and the rupiah P2P market is active. We found no primary source announcing a domain block in 2026, so we do not say Binance is fully blocked.
What is the relationship between Binance and Tokocrypto?
Tokocrypto (PT Aset Digital Berkat) is an OJK-licensed local exchange linked to Binance. We could not confirm Binance's shareholding from a primary source. Only Tokocrypto is licensed; its licence does not cover global Binance. One report says logins with Binance accounts ended in February 2026, which we have not verified.
How do people in Indonesia buy crypto with rupiah on Binance?
Through P2P: the buyer transfers rupiah to the seller's bank account or e-wallet, then Binance releases USDT from escrow. On we saw about 230 buy ads and 391 sell ads for USDT, priced around Rp17,850 to Rp17,877. Ad counts change hourly.
What tax applies to selling crypto on Binance from Indonesia?
Under PMK 50/2025, sales on a foreign platform carry 1% final income tax (PPh Article 22), against 0.21% on a licensed local platform. If the foreign platform is not designated as a collector by the Director General of Taxes, the seller reports and pays it. We could not confirm whether Binance is designated.
Is Binance P2P safe for my bank account?
There is real risk. Binance's own FAQ warns that a seller's account can be frozen if a counterparty is linked to fraud or money laundering, and suggests a dedicated P2P account. There is no OJK consumer protection. We give no incident numbers because we found no verifiable data.
