Buying crypto in Tangerang, Bekasi and Depok: a commuter's route for small amounts

In Jakarta's satellite cities, crypto buying happens almost entirely on your phone: small top-ups from your own bank account into an OJK-licensed app. We found no Bitcoin ATM here.

If you live in Tangerang, South Tangerang, Bekasi or Depok, the most practical way to buy Bitcoin is on your phone: an OJK-licensed trader app, a top-up from a bank account in your own name, and an amount that fits your monthly cash flow, rather than a trip into the city to hunt for a counter. We found no Bitcoin ATM in these three cities, which matches the national picture in our Bitcoin ATM guide. This page differs from the guide to buying crypto in Jakarta, which covers head offices and large tickets. Here the focus is commuters, students and young families starting with Rp50,000 or Rp300,000 a month, and an honest count of what it costs.

{{callout type="verify" title="Checked against sources"}} The top-up fees below come from the Indodax, Pintu, Tokocrypto and Reku help and fee pages we read at the time. The exchange (CFX) fee changes from 1 October 2026, and platforms may adjust other fees too. Check the official fee page right before you deposit, and confirm the platform appears on the OJK whitelist. {{/callout}}

Three cities, three kinds of buyer

Bekasi, Depok and the two Tangerang cities (Tangerang city and South Tangerang) are often lumped into one "Jabodetabek" pocket, but their buyers differ. Depending on source and year, Bekasi has roughly 2.6 million people, Depok just over 2 million, Tangerang city about 1.9 million and South Tangerang about 1.5 million.

Tangerang and South Tangerang

This area holds Soekarno-Hatta Airport, a great many factories and planned towns such as BSD City, Alam Sutera, Gading Serpong and Lippo Village. In BSD, Sinar Mas Land is developing a Digital Hub for startups and tech firms, and press coverage names companies such as Traveloka, Grab and the Apple Developer Academy among its tenants. People working in that sector are used to apps and QRIS, but that does not give BSD a crypto counter. The rule stays the same: an OJK-licensed app and your own bank account.

Bekasi

Bekasi is West Java's most populous city, with Jababeka, MM2100 and Summarecon Bekasi as key districts, along with Japanese and Korean companies. Factory workers are paid into bank accounts, so topping up by virtual account comes naturally. The Jabodebek LRT line through Bekasi and the KRL line from Jakarta Kota to Cikarang link the city to the capital, but you do not need to ride a train into Jakarta to buy Bitcoin. {{/cols}}

Depok is the third story. It is home to Universitas Indonesia, Gunadarma, Politeknik Negeri Jakarta and the International Islamic University Indonesia, so many residents are students with limited allowances and a first bank account. They often shuttle between a kos, campus and a family home elsewhere. One practical note for them: verification uses the e-KTP and a selfie, and platforms match the data against Dukcapil, so use your real e-KTP with the same details as your bank account, not your kos address.

Minimum-wage pay and small monthly buys: sensible arithmetic

The 2026 minimum wages give a feel for the buying power of most readers in these cities. The figures are as reported by detikFinance and apply from 1 January 2026.

Rp5,999,443Bekasi city minimum wage
Rp5,522,662Depok minimum wage
Rp5,399,406Tangerang city minimum wage
Rp5,247,870South Tangerang minimum wage

Let us do the arithmetic, not give advice. A worker earning the Bekasi minimum who sets aside 5 percent, about Rp300,000 a month, accumulates Rp3,600,000 in a year. If all of it goes into Bitcoin, that is twelve small purchases. According to Indodax's help page and Pintu, minimum instant buys are only about Rp10,000 to Rp11,000 (Rp11,000 at Pintu, Rp10,000 in Indodax's LITE mode), so Rp300,000 poses no technical barrier. What decides your net result is the top-up fee and the price spread, not the minimum buy. This is not investment advice: crypto prices can fall sharply, and the money you use should be money you can afford to lose. The guide to how to buy crypto in Indonesia walks through the first purchase, and crypto tax counts the deduction on sale: a final 0.21 percent PPh 22, so selling Rp3,600,000 means Rp7,560 in tax.

Topping up from your phone: what it really costs

For small amounts, the top-up fee matters more than the trading fee. The table works out a Rp300,000 top-up using official pages.

Top-up routeFee per the platformOn Rp300,000
Pintu virtual accountFree (minimum Rp50,000); your bank may charge its own feeRp0
Indodax Mandiri virtual accountRp1,665 (minimum Rp10,000)Rp1,665
QRIS at Indodax, Reku, Pluang0.7 percentRp2,100
ShopeePay at Pintu1.5 percentRp4,500
OVO or DANA at Pintu1.65 percentRp4,950
QRIS or e-wallet at Tokocrypto2 percentRp6,000

Virtual accounts and QRIS can both be paid from your phone. The difference is that virtual accounts wait on bank processing (Tokocrypto says usually under 5 minutes, up to 24 hours at certain hours), while QRIS and e-wallets land almost instantly, around the clock, at a higher cost. If you buy once a month, choose a virtual account and be patient. The guide to buying crypto with GoPay, OVO and DANA compares these methods in more depth, and the Reku and Pintu reviews itemise each platform's costs.

The small-amount trap: withdrawal fees

People tend to count the cost of getting in and forget the cost of getting out. For small amounts, the bank withdrawal fee can be a bigger percentage than every other cost. According to official pages, Pintu charges a flat Rp4,500 with a Rp50,000 minimum, Indodax Rp10,000 (plus Rp1,000 if you use SMS OTP verification) with a Rp100,000 minimum, Tokocrypto Rp10,000, and Reku a Rp6,500 bank administration fee with a Rp30,000 minimum.

That means withdrawing Rp300,000 costs 1.5 percent at Pintu with Rp4,500, against about 3.3 percent at Indodax with Rp10,000. Withdraw Rp3,000,000 in one go and those figures fall to 0.15 percent and 0.33 percent. The practical lesson is simple: for small regular savings, do not withdraw often. Buy regularly, hold, and withdraw only when the amount is worth it. This is pure arithmetic from published tariffs, not advice to hold or to sell. Steps and timing for withdrawing are in the guide to selling crypto for rupiah.

Foreign workers in Cikarang, Bekasi and Tangerang

The industrial areas around Bekasi and the Tangerang cities host many foreign workers, notably from Japan and Korea according to Wikipedia's picture of Bekasi. The rules are the same as in Jakarta: Indodax says foreign nationals verify with a passport, Tokocrypto mentions a KITAS or KITAP, and Reku mentions a passport plus KITAS or KITAP. Whether short-stay visa holders can open an account we could not confirm per platform. Because a bank account in your own name is also needed to top up, foreign workers without an Indonesian bank account will most likely struggle to use licensed apps (our conclusion, not a platform statement). That is why some people look at P2P on foreign platforms, with all its risks. Read the risk section of the P2P guide first. On legality in general, the legal guide explains that Bitcoin may be held and traded through licensed traders but is not valid as a payment method.

Bitcoin ATM in Tangerang, Bekasi and Depok: none found

For the frequently searched "bitcoin atm tangerang", our answer is clear but limited. In our searches the Coin ATM Radar directory surfaced no page for Tangerang, and we found no evidence of machines in Bekasi or Depok. "Not found" is not absolute proof of absence, but it is what we can stand behind. Be wary of templated city pages on directory sites, which often advertise machines we could find no proof of. The only claim of a machine anywhere in Greater Jakarta that we have logged is in Jakarta (Ratu Plaza, unproven), discussed in the Jakarta guide and the ATM guide.

Soekarno-Hatta sits in Tangerang territory, and we found no evidence of a Bitcoin ATM or a crypto exchange counter there. If you pass through with large cash, note that according to detikFinance, travellers carrying Rp100 million or more in cash must declare it to Customs, with an administrative penalty of 10 percent of the amount if they do not. Check the latest rule on the Customs website before travelling, since we could not verify it at the official source.

What exists, what we did not find

What you can use today

OJK-licensed apps such as Indodax, Pintu, Tokocrypto, Reku and Pluang on your phone. Top-ups from a bank account in your own name via virtual account or QRIS. Withdrawal to a bank account, for example a flat Rp4,500 at Pintu and Rp10,000 at Indodax and Tokocrypto. The Bitcoin Indonesia education community, which according to Eventbrite held a meet-up in Bintaro in 2026. And for large sums, OTC desks (see the OTC guide).

What we did not find

A Bitcoin ATM in Tangerang, Bekasi or Depok. A verifiable crypto-for-cash exchange shop. A licensed-app counter that takes cash deposits directly. Evidence that a digital office park in BSD or a factory in Cikarang offers crypto services to the public. "Not found" is not absolute proof of absence, and we will update this page if new evidence appears. {{/cols}}

WhatsApp groups, communities and "withdrawal services"

In the satellite cities, crypto offers often arrive through WhatsApp groups, colleagues or hobby communities: "I sell USDT below market", "I'll buy Bitcoin for you", or "withdrawal services". We do not recommend this route. Individual sellers are not supervised by OJK, a counterparty's transfer can be linked to a case that gets your bank account frozen, and fake proof-of-transfer scams are common. The safer route: sell in a licensed app, withdraw rupiah to your own account, done. If P2P on a foreign platform tempts you, read P2P crypto in Indonesia and the crypto scams guide first. Those foreign P2P platforms are not OJK-licensed, and even there we did not see an in-person cash method.

Communities are still useful for learning. Bitcoin Indonesia announces community meet-ups on Eventbrite, including one at a café in Pondok Aren, Bintaro (25 April 2026). That is an education forum. Do not bring cash for an "instant swap" on the sidelines, and do not trust an "admin" who suddenly messages you privately after you join a group.

From the satellite cities, where next

If you need something a retail app cannot serve, such as hundreds of millions of rupiah, read the Jakarta guide for OTC desks and head-office context. For a wider Java picture, Bandung has one staffed crypto counter listed in a directory (unverified), and Surabaya covers East Java's trading economy. All cities are in the locations hub, and if you want to turn your balance back into rupiah, read sell crypto for rupiah.

A practical step for today: pick one licensed app, finish e-KTP verification, then try a top-up and a purchase of Rp50,000 to Rp100,000 via a virtual account. Once you have seen the whole flow, including fees, tax and withdrawal, decide on a regular amount. If you know of a machine or counter that genuinely operates in Tangerang, Bekasi or Depok, send the evidence to contact@crypto-indonesia.com and we will check it.

Frequently asked questions

How do I buy Bitcoin in Bekasi, Depok or Tangerang?

The same way as anywhere in Indonesia: install an OJK-licensed trader app, verify with your e-KTP and a selfie, top up rupiah from a bank account in your name by virtual account or QRIS, then buy. Minimum buys are about Rp10,000 to Rp11,000, so you can start very small.

Is there a Bitcoin ATM in Tangerang, Bekasi or Depok?

We found no Bitcoin ATM in those three cities. Our search of the Coin ATM Radar directory surfaced no page for Tangerang, and we found no evidence of machines in Bekasi or Depok. Templated city pages online are not proof. Do not carry cash on a claim like that.

Is QRIS or a virtual account cheaper for top-ups?

A virtual account is usually cheaper. It is free at Pintu and Reku, while QRIS costs 0.7 percent at Indodax, Reku and Pluang and 2 percent at Tokocrypto. On a Rp500,000 top-up the gap can be Rp3,500 to Rp10,000 depending on the route.

Can a Depok student buy crypto with a small allowance?

Yes, provided you have an e-KTP and a bank account in your own name. Minimum top-up is Rp10,000 at Indodax, Reku and Tokocrypto and Rp50,000 at Pintu, and minimum buys are about Rp10,000 to Rp11,000. Remember crypto prices can fall sharply, so use money you can afford to lose.

Is it safe to swap crypto for cash through WhatsApp groups?

We do not recommend it. Individual sellers are not supervised by OJK, and the main risks are scams, problem money from third parties and bank accounts frozen by your bank. The safer route is to sell in a licensed app and withdraw rupiah to your own bank account.

Do I need anything special to buy crypto if I work in BSD or Cikarang?

Nothing special. Your workplace does not affect licensing. What matters is identity: Indonesian citizens use the e-KTP, while foreign nationals need a passport or KITAS depending on the platform. A digital office park or industrial estate does not automatically mean a crypto counter nearby.
